10 U.S. AIRLINES BANKRUPT

The American Airlines and its parent company AMR Corp. bankruptcy protection register. Registration bankruptcy the third largest U.S. airline will be the largest after the bankruptcy of UAL Corp. in December 2002. The announcement aims to restructure following the higher fuel costs and falling demand. Impact of the announcement caused shares of AMR Corp. slumped 84% to 26 cents after the announcement.



10 U.S. airlines that go bankrupt:
1. UAL Corp., December 2002, U.S. $ 25.197 billion
2. AMR Corp., November 2011, U.S. $ 25.088 billion
3. Delta Air Lines, September 2005, U.S. $ 21.801 billion
4. Northwest Airlines, September 2005, U.S. $ 14.042 billion
5. U.S. Airways Group, September 2004, U.S. $ 8.349 billion
6. U.S. Airways Group, Austus 2002, U.S. $ 8.025 billion
7. Continental Airlines, December 1990, U.S. $ 7.656 billion
8. Eastern Air Lines, March 1989, U.S. $ 4.037 billion
9. Trans World Airlines, in January 1992, U.S. $ 2.865 billion
10. Trans World Airlines, June 1995, U.S. $ 2.495 billion.

AMR bankruptcy also will record the largest of the number of employees:
1. Kmart Corp., bankrupt in 2002: 252,000 employees
2. General Motors Corp., went bankrupt in 2009: U.S. $ 243,000
3. Delphi Corp., filed for bankruptcy in 2005: 185,200
4. Allied Stores Corp., went bankrupt in 1990: 101,000
5. Flagstar Companies Inc., went bankrupt in 1997: 93,000
6. Winn-Dixie Stores Inc., went bankrupt in 2005: 89,000
7. AMR Corp., went bankrupt in 2011: 88,000.
8. UAL Corp., went bankrupt in 2002: 84,000
9. Sun HealthCare Group, went bankrupt in 1999: 80,720
10. Lear Corp., went bankrupt in 2009: 80,000.
